The Jury Must Find Michael Dunn Guilty!

After engaging in a brief argument with Jordan Davis over loud music, Michael Dunn aimed and fired three shots at Jordan Davis. The bullets passed through the door piercing Jordan Davis in the thigh and groin. The fatal shot pierced Jordan Davis' liver, lung and a major artery. As Jordan Davis' vehicle pulled away, Dunn continued to fire shots at the vehicle further endangering the lives of the three other passengers in the vehicle. Simply put, Michael Dunn killed Jordan Davis just because he played his music too loud. At the end of day, a young brother's life was snuffed out just because he refused to obey a white man.

Clearly, Dunn is intoxicated with white privilege and racism. His statements are evidence of his utter contempt for black youth.  He complained about "thug music", "thugs" and "gangsters".  His hatred for black people was expressed in his jail house letters. In those letters, he discussed the need to teach "thugs" a lesson. Football player Richard Sherman is correct. The word "thug" is simply a code word for "nigger". As reported on CBS 47 WTEV, here are a few excerpts from those letters:

"As you can imagine, I'm not getting much sympathy from the press. The're (sic) a bunch of liberal b*****s." He goes on to say "North Florida is more like the Deep South. They seem to have a lot of racial guilt, or at least the prosecutor's office does." 

"It's spooky how racist everyone is up here and how biased toward blacks the courts are.

"This jail is full of blacks and they all act like thugs," he notes. He goes on to say "This may sound a bit radical but if more people would arm themselves and kill these **** idiots when they're threatening you, eventually they may take the hint and change their behavior."

"My fear is that if I get black on my jury it will be a mistrial, as I am convinced they will be racially biased," he writes.

He accuses the other three boys who were in the SUV with Jordan Davis the day of the shooting of making up stories to "cover up their true 'colors.'"

During the trial, that monster, Michael Dunn, expressed no emotion when he testified about killing Jordan Davis. Yet, when Dunn began to testify about his pet dog, he was reduced to tears. Obviously, in his eyes, the life of his precious little dog is more important than the lives of Jordan Davis and the other three black boys in the vehicle.

Dunn claims that he acted in self defense. He claims that he saw a gun. He claims that Jordan Davis got out of the car and threatened his life. Dunn claims that he continued to fear for his life even after the shooting.

However, the evidence contradicts those claims. The police did not recover any weapons at the scene. Police did not find any weapons in the area where Jordan Davis' vehicle traveled. No other witnesses saw a gun in the Jordan Davis' vehicle car. No one witnessed the passengers stashing or discarding a weapon. Moreover, Davis has no criminal history. There is nothing in his past that supports the notion that he would be armed and dangerous. Other than Dunn, no one else testified that they heard Jordan Davis threaten Dunn. Additionally, as the medical examiner testified, the nature of Jordan Davis' injuries and location of the bullet holes do not support the claim that Davis was outside of the vehicle.

Oddly, right after the shooting, Mr. Dunn did not tell his fiancé that Jordan Davis had a gun. If Jordan Davis really threatened Dunn with a gun, Dunn would have immediately told his fiance when she returned to the car.  Furthermore, instead of calling the police after the shooting, Mr. Dunn returned to his hotel room, walked his dog, had a drink, ordered pizza, watched a movie and later slept like a baby. He did not bother to call the police. Does that sound like someone who was distraught?  Does that sound like someone who feared for his safety? In sum, Dunn's story is inconsistent with the evidence. It does not add up. Dunn is guilty as hell.

No rational jury would find Michael Dunn not guilty. After the infamous George Zimmerman verdict, this nation cannot afford another not guilty verdict. For the stake of Jordan Davis' family and this nation, I hope and pray that the jury returns a verdict of guilty. Hopefully, later on today or tomorrow, this article will be outdated and Michael Dunn will be carried out of the courtroom in handcuffs.

Otherwise, the message will be crystal clear: it is open season on black people. The message will be that there is no justice for black people in America. The message will be that our lives are worth less than a piece of fecal matter being flushed down a toilet.

If we cannot depend on the state to protect us, we will have no alternative. We will eventually have to stand our ground and defend ourselves. A hopeless people will become a dangerous people. Maybe then, Florida will change their gun laws. Maybe then, Florida will repeal their ridiculous stand ground laws.

TMZ, We Are Not Niggers

During a TMZ interview, hip hop mogul and ex felon Suge Knight said that he prefers the word "nigga" over the term "African American". He further said, "We ain't from Africa." No one expects a thug and criminal like Suge Knight to drop any gems of wisdom. After all, we are talking about a man who got rich promoting, producing and selling so-called gangsta rap. That music constantly refers to black people as niggas, bitches, hoes, etc.  It celebrates murder, drug dealing, misogyny, pimping, stripping, etc. So again, I do not expect to hear enlightening words from Mr. Knight. 

However, I do expect more TMZ, much more. As reported on the Huffington Post, TMZ had the audacity to create a poll asking their readers if black people should be referred to as African Americans or niggas.

TMZ's poll is a prime example of thoughtlessness and cultural insensitivity. It is clearly racist. Imagine if TMZ created a poll asking if Jews should be referred to as Jews or kikes. Imagine if TMZ created a poll asking if lesbians and gays should be referred to as LGBTs or faggots.  Those groups would raise holy hell, and rightly so.

Where is our outrage? While the world is up in arms about a backwoods, red neck reality star for expressing his religious views, we do not hear a peep from those same people about TMZ's racist poll. Where are the letters or petitions to TMZ condemning TMZ's poll?  Where are the demands for an apology to the African American community?

TMZ, we are not niggers. We are African Americans. As Malcolm X said, we did not come to America on the Mayflower. Our ancestors were kidnapped from the motherland, Africa and dragged to America. We were stripped of our humanity and reduced to chattel property. We came to this country in shackles packed in slave ships like sardines. We were forced to wallow in our waste for long periods of time. When we finally arrived in America, we were beaten, raped, burned, shot, lynched, castrated and butchered.

Not only were we physically oppressed, we were mentally oppressed. Over time, our enemy tried to blot out our original African culture, identity and history. However, our African identity did not die. It evolved, adapted, survived and became African American. Africa is in our blood, physical features, food, music, dance, worship and superstitions. Despite our oppression, we managed to salvage fragments of our cultural identity.

Not only did our oppressor try to destroy our culture, our oppressor indoctrinated us with the myth of white supremacy. To further degrade and denigrate us, our oppressor created and used the most offensive word in the English language, nigger. For centuries, the slave masters and segregationists called us niggers and fed us a diet of self hatred. Eventually, many of us internalized our oppression and began to adopt the racist language of the oppressor. Sadly, we began to call ourselves niggers. Instead of fighting that ugly legacy, TMZ has decided to perpetuate it.

We should be outraged, but we are not.  We would rather jump on another group's bandwagon.

“American Slavery Was Not A Sergio Leone Spaghetti Western. It Was A Holocaust. My Ancestors Are Slaves. Stolen From Africa. I Will Honor Them."

and all hell broke loose. Everybody and their mama threw the brother under the bus. At the same time, those ingrates elevated and honored their white lord and savior, Quentin Tarantino.   For weeks, I have been defending Spike Lee online. I thought I was done talking about Spike Lee, Quentin Tarantino and Django Unchained.

Then, something happened. Early this morning, I was on Facebook and I saw a powerful Huffington Post article written by Morris W. O'Kelly entitled We Owe Spike Lee a Huge Apology. In his piece, Mr. O'Kelley writes:

Spike Lee doesn't need my help to defend him, but he does deserve our gratitude and respect.

I remember watching Pulp Fiction for the first time. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, if not loved it. It is fair to characterize it as a classic piece of American cinema. But that doesn't in any way mitigate the impact or excuse the "Dead N***** Storage" joke(s) in the film. They were unnecessary and wholly arbitrary in nature. They weren't for expository effect or "authenticity."

They were to generate laughs. He got none from me.

Then came Jackie Brown. This time, it was more of the same but for a lesser quality movie. Samuel L. Jackson was once again (like Pulp Fiction) used as the loudspeaker for the supposed humor. In fact, it was used 38 times. Again, not for expository effect or "authenticity" sake, (although Tarantino has argued publicly that the movie was an homage to the Blackxploitation genre in which the word was often used.)

But again... used to generate laughs... and I didn't.

My familiarity with Tarantino's work was neither linear nor chronological in nature. It wasn't until after Jackie Brown that I went back and discovered Reservoir Dogs... and there it is found too. Say it again with me... not for expository effect or "authenticity" sake.

This time it wasn't necessarily for laughs per se, but was used by "Mr. Pink" to specifically degrade and deride as an insult.

This is largely the history of Quentin Tarantino leading up to Django Unchained, a movie whose script was widely circulated in the year prior to its release. Spike Lee read it, I've read and virtually everyone else involved in entertainment had read it long before the movie premiered.

Lee, made it clear that he did not plan to support the movie, finding the whole premise of spaghetti western slave drama to be "disrespectful" to his (and my) ancestors. In response, Lee was criticized and castigated for not having viewed the movie first and for being a "hater," as the reductionist, simple-minded argument would go.

Lee's critique is not, was not and will never be dependent on the "quality" of the movie. It never was about the movie, it's about the very premise. I don't need to actually view "Slavery -- The Broadway Musical" starring Jennifer Hudson to forward the idea that slavery as a musical is wholly disrespectful in its very conception. I don't need to sit through "Slavery - The Daytime Soap Opera" starring Shemar Moore or "Superman The Man of Steel Frees the Negroes" co-starring Flava Flav either to come to this reasonable conclusion....

Lee was called (among other things) a "thug" and "punk" by comedian Dick Gregory and a "conniving and scheming Uncle Tom" by former 2LiveCrew leader Luther Campbell. I respect the former and laugh at the latter. Dick Gregory has a long, undeniable civil rights history, but such a classless rebuke for a film he wasn't in and criticism not directed at him is curious at best. And you also mean to tell me, the man BEST known for debasement of countless women of color and a career of misogyny, Luther Campbell was calling the director of Four Little Girls, When the Levees Broke, Malcolm X, Do the Right Thing and Miracle at St. Anna (producer) an "Uncle Tom?"

That would be laugh-out-loud funny if it weren't so sadly ignorant. Campbell knows about as much about Harriet Beecher Stowe as I do quantum physics.
